Depends on the platform. I prefer hardware units. On my audio chain that I
ran on 5150fm.net, I had a Yamaha GC2020B that fed into a pair of Orban 424As 
that I did NOT strap together. Out of that into an Aphex Aural exciter.

I tried a DBX 160 but I was quite disappointed in it's sound.

For my CDs I use the plugins on an older copy of Audacity - I won't upgrade
it due to it's new deliberate lack of security "features".

I can't remember what I used on my automated stream but it was a plugin for 
Winamp. It had this setting called "FM Magic" that sounded pretty mint! I 
used for playlist creation "Amazing Clock Wheel", with a crossfader plugin
and this other one I mentioned.
