To : Arelor From : Lightman Date : Tue Jun 01 2021 23:32:21 Hi Arelor, Ar> I am sad so many people is bringing Monopoly up, because it is Ar> objetively a very bad game. The Ar> I'm not one to argue, but to say 'objectively' might stretch credulity a bit - lol. I don't disagree with your sentiment - if you ended up on the wrong side post 'saddle'.... Ar> players get to build their empire with some negotiations going on during Ar> the first part until a Ar> saddle point (game theory) is reached, and then it is a two hour long ..... you spent the next two (ten?!) hours pissed and ready to flip the table - it could ruin your day. But... - subjectively - there was **something** to this arrival at the 'saddle' which had all of us coming back for more, even though my older sibs always kicked my arse. What?! I dunno - the thought of holding a monopoly on the 'green' states and seeing your friends fall into the trap of needing to rent from your hotels? Yeah - I got it, the game sucked, but looking back on life in the 80s (my perspective) - its what you had and how you hung out with friends when it was too temperate to run about sardines / hide-and-seek. hehe I'll give you that the game sucked (from my perspective) - I dunno if I will say 'objectively'. Sometimes I wish the kids of this generation would play a crappy game like Monopoly, and spend time face to face with friends for the hours (short-version) or, sometimes, days it would take to finish a game with six players. So... maybe I find myself in agreement after all.... but I'm glad the game existed. It was fun (socially), and easy to approach for a kid who didn't have parents to teach them game-theory. lol --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A46 2020/08/26 (Linux/64) * Origin: Pedalion BBS (21:3/143) .
