Crisis Core! I remember at that time, everyone just wanted a FFVII remake and
it seemed like Square would keep releasing games that had the FFVII universe,
but never FFVII itself.

I played that back in the day but haven't tried the Remake. I know I could
Google the answer, but where would the fun be in doing that, but what system
was the Sequel/Remake on?
