Heh, my friends and I used to lug our computers to each others places.  I didn't originally have a fast enough modem, but even when I did get one, we still met up for the social aspect, for not tying up the phone line, ease of organising games (much easier to start/stop games in person than over the phone) and just general fun of being in the same room and taunting each other verbally.
