I don't disagree with your sentiment - if you ended up on the wrong > side post 'saddle'.... > It has nothing to do with winning or losing. If you are in a dominant possition post saddle you are still going to get bored to death. Board game design is so advanced and has been iterated over so often that whether the game succeds or fails at achieving its design goals is quite obvious. Board games can have many design goals - MOnopolyç's was promoting Georgism - but any one that aims to be entertaining needs one of the following things: * To offer meaningful decisions to the player, so the player gets involved and sucked into the game. Or some intelectual challenge at least. * To offer tension, so the player is bitting his nails because the next die roll is the difference between life and death. Monopoly does this for a while, then it runs dry. Which is why I categorize it as objetively bad. Bonus ponts because it failed at educating people about Georgism too. Now compare this to a non-mainstream family friendly game like 7 Wonders: * You get a meaningful decision to make every single turn. * No player gets eliminated, so everybody has fun until the very end. * You need to adapt to what others players are doing (intelectual challenge). Heck, even a game so basic such as Ticket to Ride has these. -- gopher://gopher.richardfalken.com/1/richardfalken --- SBBSecho 3.14-Linux * Origin: Palantir * palantirbbs.ddns.net * Pensacola, FL * (21:2/138) .
