AMD is almost as old as Intel..  Intel was founded in 1968, and AMD was founded just a year later, in 1969.  I was using AMD processors in my home computers since the early 90s (though lately I've been using Intel).  I've never seen AMD as the new kid on the block.  And AMD and Intel have both been ahead of each other at different points in time.
