In order to address a (private) message to a user at a certain address, you would have to post the message to a netmail area rather than an echomail area.

If I remember correctly there is actually a "private" flag for echomail, too, but it will still be distributed to all nodes subscribed to that echomail area (so not very private) and not all software supports that flag... =)
