I think I have a handle on the problem. It has to do with the jiggery pokery
to make The Reader use JAM bases alongside SuperBBS.  The Reader has direct
support for SuperBBS but if you use it all you get is access to the HUDSON
base.

I had to create a partial BBS like installation for the JAM bases to work
with an "unsupported" BBS type.  So the FSX setup for The Reader is pointing
to its own directory as the system directory.  The batch file for iceedit is
the same one being called for both TheReader and SuperBBS which reference
\SBBS\LINE%1 as the working directory. Hence it not seeing the modified
msgtmp file.

I'll have to bend my brain around how to fix it. Probably run a seperate
batch file for each use. I have one set up now for local logon vs remote
logon I might be able to massage the third case into it, but probably simpler
to seperate it out.
