I don't think there is a "normal" number of .ini's - I have quite a few going:

mailout.ini
mailin.ini
bbsad.ini - posts BBS ad in various areas (currently inactive)
nodelist.ini - takes nodelists from various ftn file areas and compiles them
weather.ini - posts current weather 3 times per day
horoscope.ini - posts daily horoscope once per day
maint.ini - run once per day in the middle of the night

I'm sure there has to be someone out there with more.

I use mailin.ini to toss both mail and files at the same time, no point in running mutil twice after receiving mail and/or files from your hub.
