I disabled the built-in log rotation in Mystic, and am using logrotate
instead as I'm used to. My /etc/logrotate.d/custom_mystic:

/mnt/bbs/mystic/logs/*.log {
        daily
        notifempty
        missingok
        rotate 7
        compress
        delaycompress
        copytruncate
        su bbs bbs
}

(Mystic logs are in /mnt/bbs/mystic/logs and Mystic is running as the "bbs"
user, "bbs" group.)
