I'm not sure about an interface from Mystic to gopher, but I can tell you
that gopher is still pretty much alive. There's been a revival movement for
the past few years within a very active community. If you use IRC you can
join #gopherproject at freenode to learn more or just ask me any questions.

I'm part of this movement and the creator of gopher://gopherddit.com/ which
is a full gatweway to Reddit using gopher. If you're curious, you can use
lynx to open gopher holes, it works flawlessly. There are tons of phlogs,
which are the equivalent to web blogs and personal gopher holes, like mine
for instance, which you can access by pointing lynx or any other gopher
capable browser to the address in my signature below.

also hosts Veronica-2, a gopher search engine and links to very important
gopher holes that are good starting points:
