I can't. Each version of GCC seems to have it's own quirks. I deal with this by having a few versions of GCC that I compile against. Ubuntu tends to have the latest, and Debian the oldest. If it works on both you are usually golden. Also you can use centos (I hate redhat but...) you can use their devtoolset to install multiple gcc's pretty easily that you can swap between using "scl enable ..." commands. I just keep a build farm running with ubuntu, centos, win32, and debian10.
