Yes, the MPG you read about are conservative. With a light foot you can beat the advertised numbers. I think the new Prius is listed as 50/52 MPG? The plug-ins are nice, their range is up into the 20s of miles now. You do lose the spare tire and I was never sure about battery replacements, whereas replacements for the non plug-ins are commonplace.
