I like raw onion and green tea, but I don't really like plain sparkling water (I tend to like it more if it has some flavoring).
I visited Germany in 1998, and it seems they really like sparkling/carbonated water there..  Pretty much all of the bottled water I saw in convenience stores & such was carbonated.  I'd even seen a couple with a toddler in a stroller, and they gave their toddler some carbonated water..  I was relieved when we went into Switzerland for a few days and we found a convenience store there selling bottled non-carbonated water.
