I'd be curious, and I made a discovery last night that there are actually software implementations of the AMBE codecs out there. DVSwitch can use a couple of them, like the MD380 emulator, which can do AMBE as used in DMR and YSF-n, and OP25, which can do all of the codecs in current use on VHF/UHF (AMBE - DMR, YSF-n, DSAMBE - D-STAR, IMBE - P25, YSF-w).
