They have their uses.  The main downside for me is that proprietary vocoder,
which makes integration much more expensive.  Instread of a simply software
bridge like Asterisk or thelinkbox, you have to buy a hardware adapter and have
your software talk to that for transcoding.  And that gets expensive very
quickly.  It's also a pain if you use a VPS, because you have to send the audio
to a site with the hardware and back again. :/

I'm not doing any of that (haven't had the money), but others have.

Well, I'm setup for DMR.  I can do D-STAR, but would have to manually configure
the hotspot to do so.  Ideally, I'd like a second hotspot for D-STAR.
