So my tin cans and string is only working one way for some reason.  Having ¨not had problems with FD's zmodem previously its hanging up at 1k quite ¨reliably and resorting to retries until it finally times out.

This has bought to light other problems.  A good portion of my current ¨linux installs appear to be knackered.  Up to the point a good selection of ¨binaries are corrupt, and apt goes through the motions but doesn't actually ¨do anything.

A ground up rebuild looks like it might be in order.
