I get the feeling I'm going to miss my Prius. The last time we had a
major outage, I was able to run an extension cord from the refrigerator
to an inverter in my Prius. I could lock the doors and leave it in READY
mode. The engine would turn over every 20 minutes or so to keep the
battery charged. Saved a fridge full of food.

I was running the BBS off of a laptop; I took the laptop to work with me
to send/receive mail packets.  Where there's a will, there's a way!
