Subj : Homelabs and noise To : All From : poindexter FORTRAN Date : Sun May 26 2024 10:51:00 shoulda, woulda, coulda... A couple of years ago I had some cable pullers come in and run a backbone between floors. I so should have had him run a couple of runs to my storage space. I have a homelab with a laptop running Proxmox, an old Synology NAS, a laptop fan keeping the server cool, and an external USB drive as a backup target. The laptop fan is starting to make noise. Now that it's getting warmer here, the NAS fans are kicking in more often. The external drive makes a clunk every once in a while. The NAS has 5 2TB spinning drives chattering away... If I had those runs into the storage space, I could have a nice, cool, soundproof space for my servers. I may need to move some of my equipment around into a storage armoire - currently, they're sitting on top. By putting them inside, they'll be quieter, but I'm worried about heat buildup. ....
