My grandma used to make "spaghetti like great-grandma" which consisted of elbow macaroni, tomato soup and bacon. Not Italian, but very tasty. Ni> Government cheese? What is that? Wow! That was a long time ago. So back in the 1980's, the gov't had "surplus" food (because of the usual gov't reasons) that they would give out to low income or other "needy" people. The food was usually butter, cheese and, sometimes, honey. The honey was just regular honey. The butter was awful, but grandma found that it worked really nice for butter toffee. The cheese, though... Oh, the cheese was really good. Sort of like a very firm Velveeta. It melted nice and had a good flavor. Us college guys made grilled cheese sandwiches. Sometimes we made mac and cheese too. .... Give and you might receive.
