My first incarnation of realitycheckBBS ran Telegard on an IBM AT. Telegard didn't have a tosser that could handle pkts back then, to I had to use qmail to toss packets to *.msg files, then Telegard could toss those into the message base.

All this was happening on a 32 megabyte hard drive, which would occasionally fill up during mail runs. 

I could toss one message from pkt to *.msg in about second, and it took another second to toss it from *.msg into Telegard. Nightly mail runs meant hearing a full-height 5 1/4" drive churning away for an hour or more. Modern garbage disposals are quieter.   :)
