Interesting you bring this up. I have a carbon fiber driveshaft for my car. Many people get aluminum driveshafts due to the light weight and low cost. Historically, these were made of iron, which was great but a bit heavy. The problem with aluminum is that when it breaks, it turns into a hot molten slug that shoots into your car. I picked the carbon fiber intentionally to have something that would shred to pieces at failure.
