These days, while I don't think I can legally drive here in Germany (valid US license, but I need to do things here), I've thought that it'd be fairly reasonable to get around with bikes, trains, scooters, etc., and then rent cars when wanting to go on longer trips. But, in that case, I'm more paying to not have to take care of parking the car or do maintenance on it.
