Sure, and the advantage that a BBS had back in the day was a relatively small
user base (even the big boards were tiny in comparison to Facebook or
Twitter) and a relatively proactive moderator (the sysop) or group of
moderators (message base moderators). The trolliest boards I can remember
all involved a younger sysop and their group of friends, mostly because
the SysOp didn't want to moderate their friends. Trolls existed, but for the
most part they got beaten back pretty quickly, IME.
