There had been talk within the Consumer Electronics industry > for years about eliminating physical media in place of cloud based content. When I was at Broadcom several years ago, we were integrating a smart card (and other memory card format) reader/writer logic into our network controllers and there was an initiative from the laptop OEMs to make media on the smart cards available to view/read in all system/power modes (e.g. even when the laptop was closed/sleeping). The reason being: Hollywood was going to start distribution of movies on SD cards instead of Blu-ray Discs and they wanted people to use their laptops as movie viewers in low power modes (no-OS running). That never happened. It looks like network *distribution* of media is here to stay. > I bookmarked Plex Media Server as search for me to check out later. I've been running a Plex server for several years too and have thousands of titles in there plus all my home movies. We get to watch my friends' titles too. Definitely recommend it. -- digital man (rob) Synchronet "Real Fact" #48: Synchronet directory naming (i.e. ctrl, exec, data) was suggested by S.
