Yeah, that's what I've often thought too. There were many BBS packages I remember being used in my area: RemoteAccess, WWIV, Searchlight, Wildcat, Maximus, MajorBBS, Spitfire, Ezycom, TAG, Telegard, Renegade, and probably others. It sounds like Synchronet was another popular one, so I'm a little surprised I don't remember seeing any Synchronet BBSes in my area.
