I've used it and Deno quite a bit. It's used a lot with Apollo as a GraphQL server as well as with socketio for rtc stuff. It's a first class option for AWS Lambda and many similar FaaS runtimes and services. As to the name, it was a marketting gimick that came from Netscape wanting to piggyback on the popularity of Java at the time. IIRC, the original name was supposed to be LiveScript, not to be confused with a more recent language using that name. -- Michael J.
