NetBSD has an initial release date set at 19 April 1993, whereas Freebsd has it on 1 November 1993. NetBSD was derived from 386BSD just the same as FreeBSD. OpenBSD is a fork of NetBSD. If anything, the o"original" the big *BSDs are branched from is 386BSD.
