Guess it depends just how cold it gets, but we used to be able to get year
round eggs just by feeding them warm food.  I used to have grains, forage,
and pellets from time to time.  You'd just stand the pellets in hot water,
let it cool a bit and presto warm mash.

Only thing we ever used any kind of heater for, and that was normally just a
40W incandescent globe would be hatchlings.
