No they are pets for the kids and free eggs for us :)  With eggs costing $4.99 each egg these days (kidding not that high) it is a nice bonus to have free "backyard fresh" eggs.  It's been a fun learning experience for sure. While other neighbors in our "hood" also have chickens, all it takes is one change in our HOA bylaws, so the eggs have also been a handy bribe to keep the neighborly peace.

I'd definitely find that to be very challenging.  I'd find it lonely if I were extroverted while maybe rather awesome if an introvert able to simply say "sorry I don't speak German" all of the time ;)  When at work, are you around mostly english speaking coworkers and bosses?

Funny you bring that up, with my 15 year old just completed Spanish 2 and is speaking it rather well, so I jokingly tell the family we should move to Mexico.

That would be painful, however I would imagine experiencing the culture, history, landscape, all while meeting new people you can communicate with is worth it, right?
