Also the fact that Synchronet is in continual development and open source, so you don't have to wait for someone to fix something and send out a release when they're ready, you just pick up the latest commits. While Synchronet is complicated, it's also very well documented so whether you want to run on Windows or Linux, you'll find everything you need to get going. I find the hardest part is redesigning the menus since you are going to have to dip into the code a little. Again, lot's of people who can help since it's open source.
