I started off in computers when they stood in the center of glassed-off
rooms, with a ramp leading up to a raised floor. Only appointed people
were allowed to enter the room, and Never With Food Or Drink.

Getting to go in and see a system was awe-inspiring to college-aged me.

Later, I took a job writing code on a midrange computer (only the size
of 2 armoires...) where I was tasked with environmental maintenance
(e.g. sweeping all of the paper chads out from under the line printer)
and swapping tapes for backup. I later became the Lead Acolyte.

I ascended to full priesthood when I was allowed to hit the Big Red
Button that engaged the Halon system as a test.
