PFSense and setup PFBlockerNG and you will see that drop off dramatically!  It has an automated black list of IPS that is well maintained that will clean up that Mess.  We have more sysops than users.  I'm My boards Most active user by far.  I do have a few that pop in and say hi and check mails and so one every few days.  It always brings a smile to my face when I see Paulie was on.  He always make a neat little message waiting for me at the Blerbs Sections of the board.  

Make your board what you like as you will be its most active user.
