My reason was that I didn't want to depend on their servers to be able  
to access my own server. (And thus, they can look at my data, which I  
don't like)
Using Emby, I really have a self-hosted solution.

I did not know of Jellyfin back when I switched; I might have switched  
there instead of Emby, as Jellyfin is the free fork of Emby.

For watching/recording live TV, I have tvheadend installed, but I  
don't really use it anymore as I hardly ever watch live TV nowadays...
