There are definitely some benefits there. I wonder how they do their daily backups? I imagine it would be best to power down the machine to do the backup (which means some downtime daily). Also, if backups are daily, what if they do a backup when it's in a bad state? Normally, backups should be in a good working configuration so that if something goes wrong, you know you can always revert back to a good working backup.
