Yeah, there were those fidonet addresses (I was 
kurt.weiske@f418.n161.z1.fidonet.org) or the even longer bang paths, when 
you had to specify a route for email to travel to in order to get to you.

I wonder if that was the motivation for me getting a shell account at 
crl.com, one of the shortest names I could find.    :)
