So, Mastodon; am I correct in saying its like a Facebook on top of Matrix-like infrastructure? You can run your own private Mastodon w/ a community of folks who can see all members pages - or join the federation and connect with other Mastodon communities? 

I believe I have a Mastodon PAGE on SDF.ORG, but thats as far as I've l00ked into it.
