It's kind of true.  You can just tell when it's a Canadian show based on the 
quality of production.  A lot of US movies & TV shows are filmed in Canada due 
to the tax breaks (a lot of Gotham was filmed in my city), and those look 
awesome.  A Canadian show filmed in the same city just isn't the same.

It might as well have been produced by the AV club of a high school in 
Ottawa.

The only two shows that actually seem kind of higher budget is Big Brother 
Canada & The Great Canadian Baking show, those are actually pretty good 
quality.
