You can hook up gaming controllers to the Shield and play games on it.  It also has bluetooth, which is what the remote uses to communicate with it.  

I believe the shield has more local storage which comes in to play if you run Kodi locally on it.  The shield will do 4k, but I believe the new Rokus will do that as well.

It is pretty quick on loading stuff, too, but I have never used a Roku other than a TV integrated one which isn't really the same thing.
