Even if you don't use Plex, you can plug a USB hard drive into the HDHomerun Flex 4K tuner and it has its own DVR functionality (though they say that requires a paid TV guide service; with Plex I haven't had to pay for any TV Guide service for its DVR).

That unit also has 4 tuners, so you can be watching/recording up to 4 different TV stations at a time.
