I would argue that this is not just a BBS thing, but perhaps something you may well expect to find in a number of communities. I wonder if it's sometimes borne out of incumbents comfort for the ways things are done, the desire for consistency etc. I'm not against such things per say but I agree new ideas that come along into any pursuit/interest (if tested or trialled with an open mindset) can lead to developments unseen or thought of by the wider community prior.

I'd like to think the not all left, and of course what is 'reasonable' to one may be seen as unreasonable to another. The joys eh? :)
