I read/write in very selected echos, and agree on it's history having 
some value/attraction.

Same here, although the lines get a little blurry in some echos.

Very true there with your last sentence, but I don't think it matters 
too much, really.  With a fair amount of people running their BBS from 
the cloud/VPS, the geographic location has become less important, and of 
course "local phone calls" are a thing of the past.  I'd say you don't 
need to change anything, at least not for those reasons alone.
