Fidonet may be larger, but I suspect many that do have it linked do so out of a nostalgia / familiarity thing than for any kind of content. If I were to open up a network using zone 5, i probably wouldn't call it fidonet-africa though, I get that the person doing it is wanting to resurrect dead networks, and perhaps doesn't realize that Fidonet-Africa is refering to a sub network of Fidonet, rather than Fidonet the networking technology. Is fidonet trademarked? If so it would be interesting to see how that works out in a court. I'm not a lawyer, but as far as I know you have to defend a trademark for it to remain valid - and with the cross over between software and Fidonet the network (ie, many people create fidonet software without applying to use a trade mark) Anyway, I would suggest to miss chief, to perhaps try and create a new network using the fidonet technology rather than trying to resurrect other peoples dead nets - just as a courtesy incase one day they want to come back and resurrect them themselves.
