the youtube tutorials + the test config allowing near immediate usage of the
net certainly helps. fsx and dovenet are the only two with a near zero bar for entry and without any sort of "will they let me join? is my bbs good enough?" sort of stigma.

fidonet in particular outright says you figure it out yourself and it better work first time. not very friendly if you ask me..
