For American shows, those cuts may have been made back when the show was syndicated. A first-run, half-hour show was usually 22-24 minutes long, I think, leaving 6 minutes for commercials. When those shows are sold into syndication, they usually cut out 2-4 minutes. MeTV is an interesting case study. Sometimes they show the uncut, first-run versions of shows like the Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock Presents while, at other times, you can tell they are showing the shorter syndicated episodes of those same shows. ....
