Not sure the path of least resistance, one I'm personally quite fond of, is a
symptom of apathy, the easy way isn't always the wrong way.. There must be
something to installing all the junk on everything, otherwise they wouldn't
bother... not sure also it equates well to the property market.

Its been a thing here for many generations now, that you can/would ultimately
buy a house to live in.. it was just the way we worked.  Somewhere back there
we also started getting "blocks of flats" probably late 60s early 70s for the
most part, put a cheaper alternative out there...in the mid to late 90s
though we had an asian invasion of sorts... and "investors" went plumb nuts
building shoebox sized apartments that they could rent/sell to asian students
who seemed accustomed to living in this kind of environment already.  That
really pushed our $/sq M up...
