There can be situations where a manager or other superior will back you and
support you, despite what the "company" wants.  You shouldn't be loyal to a
company, that is stupid, but to people, yes, that can pay off.  I've been lucky
to have some managers pull through for me and reciprocate the support that I
gave them.
