I'm one of them, I seldom carry cash anymore, though I did happen to have 
some for my camping trip to buy some firewood.  I had to fill my gas tank up 
in the park, I drove 37km to the nearest gas station (Shell in Dwight) and 
thankfully they were still able to take credit cards, but debit was down.

They blamed it on an Ericsson firmware update when this happened last year in 
April of 2021:

It looks like I was down from about 4:30am on Friday until about 1am on 
Saturday.  Thankfully my cell phone is with Telus so I really wasn't affected 
that much by this.
