One of the advantages I've found with Proxmox is that it'll do some things out of the box that (I think) you need a license for with ESXi - live migration is one example. I have 3 hosts and can live migrate VM's between them if I need to. It's not as nice as it could be because I don't have shared storage on my personal cluster, so it has to do a live migration of the discs as well, but for what I do I can live with that. There's probably other things too - not sure.
