The problem with the sort of one-liner conversation starters we are talking
about is that the OP rarely follows through with the conversation. The end
result is that the conversation does not happen even if somebody wants to
follow through.

We may get 5 one-liners, in the style "Do you like pineapple on your pizza?"
and then I may answer one of those with "I love it, but only if they make it
like my grandmother used to. Do you have a particular pizza with pineapple you
prefer?"

And then silence happens because the OP has moved over to the next 5
conversation starters.

Eventually, what you have is you have a degraded noise/signal ratio since you
have more text in the network but not more actual discussion. And this
isn't good.

To be truthful, I think TM has done some effort in trying to follow through
with conversations he starts, so there is that :-)
