The end result is that the conversation does not happen even if somebody wants to follow through. We may get 5 one-liners, in the style "Do you like pineapple on your pizza?" and then I may answer one of those with "I love it, but only if they make it like my grandmother used to. Do you have a particular pizza with pineapple you prefer?" And then silence happens because the OP has moved over to the next 5 conversation starters. Eventually, what you have is you have a degraded noise/signal ratio since you have more text in the network but not more actual discussion. And this isn't good.
